Rio Hondo College
Security and wireless Technology Design and Consulting services from Schematic Design to Construction Administration and Close-Out.
Rio Hondo College is a public community college in Whittier, California. The college has served more than 1 million students since it opened in 1963. RHC has three additional site campuses, two of which are home to the Rio Hondo Fire Academy and Rio Hondo Police Academy. With approximately 1,000 employees and student enrollment of over 16,000, the campus security and safety for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors is a very high priority for Rio Hondo College.
Exante360 became RHC’s security consultant of record after a competitive bid process. The college was interested in updating and expanding its current security camera system. We performed assessments of existing conditions, established construction documents for 100+ new camera locations including connectivity/infrastructure requirements, and we assisted RHC with the identification of a new Network Video Recorder.
This project was different from other similar engagements in that Exante360 designed a wireless point-to-point backbone to bridge the video back to the wired LAN in various locations. The physical layout of the campus being on top of a tall hill that is covered with shrubs and trees made it especially interesting with regards to identifying valid lines of sight that allowed for wide Fresnel zones in the middle of the links for optimal uptime and link quality.
